Penang Umno fully behind Abdullah, Najib - NST

GEORGE TOWN: All 11 state Umno assemblymen yesterday reaffirmed their support for party president Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and deputy president Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

State opposition leader Datuk Azhar Ibrahim said the members would continue to seek their guidance in leading the party.

"We need their expertise and vast political experience to help rebuild Umno.

"The grassroots as well as the top leadership want both of them to continue serving the party and the country," Azhar said at a press conference here to refute claims that Penang Umno leaders wanted Abdullah to step down.

"Abdullah has the mandate of the people and we will support him all the way to overcome the problems faced by the party."

At the same time, Azhar, who is also Penaga state assemblyman, hit out at the DAP-PKR-led state government for not delivering their election promises.

"They have been in office for almost one month but I have yet to see any positive development.
